Are Your Feet Getting You Down?

Podiatry treatment comes in many different forms, and is designed to help with many conditions that affect the feet and legs. As the feet and legs form the foundation of our bodies, they’re integral to how our bodies function, and as such may affect more than just the feet and legs themselves. Podiatry treatment aims to relieve pain from the toes to the knees in order to help us achieve optimal foot health and perform at our best.

Woodlands Podiatry: Your Feets Best Friend

Podiatry focuses on healthcare for the feet and lower extremities, encompassing the ankle and calf. The healthcare practitioner who practises podiatry is called a podiatrist. The objective of podiatry is to identify, manage, and recover from problems affecting the feet, legs, and associated structures, as well as to prevent such issues whenever feasible.

How Do I Know If I Could Benefit From Podiatry Treatment?

No matter the issue you’re experiencing with your feet or lower legs, addressing it as soon as possible is crucial. Your feet and legs carry you to your destinations, so taking care of them is essential.

Should you have foot or leg discomfort that’s been troubling you, scheduling an appointment with a podiatrist is always wise. This ensures any potential problems are tackled promptly, giving your podiatrist a better opportunity to treat it before it worsens. Any issue preventing you from living life to the fullest deserves attention, including those involving feet and legs.

Though various foot and leg issues may benefit from podiatry treatment, common conditions among those who visit podiatrists include:

  • Arthritis
  • A clinical diagnosis or history of foot or lower limb deformity
  • A clinical diagnosis of falls
  • Soft tissue and muscular pathologies
  • Circulatory diseases
  • Diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, or neuropathy

However, podiatry is suitable for anyone and everyone who might benefit from a podiatrist’s expertise. Whether it’s a persistent plantar wart, a painful ingrown toenail, shin discomfort hindering your running, or a fungal nail infection keeping you from going barefoot, a podiatrist is your ideal solution.

How Podiatrists May Help With Foot And Leg Issues

The approach your podiatrist takes to managing your injury, pain, or condition will depend on various factors, such as the condition itself, its severity, and how it affects your daily life. Common Questions Our Clients Ask Us

  • What is the fastest way to get rid of a plantar wart?

The quickest way to remove a plantar wart is often through professional treatments such as cryotherapy or laser therapy, administered by a healthcare professional.

Cryotherapy: This process entails using liquid nitrogen to freeze the wart, leading to the formation of blisters on the wart tissue, which then causes it to detach over time. The process can be somewhat uncomfortable and may require several sessions to eliminate the wart entirely, but it’s one of the fastest methods available.

Laser Therapy: Laser therapy employs a powerful light beam to target and eliminate the tissue of the wart by burning it. This method can be effective, especially for warts that haven’t responded to other treatments and can lead to quicker results. However, it may require a few sessions and can be more costly.

Both of these methods are faster than over-the-counter treatments, which typically involve the application of salicylic acid over several weeks or months. It’s important to note that while these professional treatments can accelerate wart removal, they may not provide instant results, and multiple sessions might be needed for complete eradication. Additionally, there’s always a risk that the wart can recur, even after professional treatment.

Consulting our team can provide you with a tailored approach to efficiently tackle the issue, taking into account the size, number, and resilience of your plantar wart(s).

  • If I have a wart resolve, will it come back?

Unfortunately, if you inadvertently come in contact again with the virus that causes warts there is a possibility that a new infection will occur. Therefore, it is important to limit exposure to situations that will put you at risk of this occurring (see How Can I Prevent Warts?).

  • What types of side effects can I expect from Swift therapy?

Fortunately, side effects from Swift Therapy are very rare and minor. Worst case scenario you may develop a small blister at the site of application of the Swift tip. Swift treatment is not recommended for people that have implanted pacemakers, metal implants at the site of the wart or are pregnant.

  • How can I prevent warts?

Warts are caused by a virus that loves warm, moist environments, such as public swimming pools, showers, and gyms. They are highly contagious and can be easily picked up by wandering around barefoot. To lessen the risk of being infected with a wart you should always wear closed in footwear ,or at a minimum socks, when walking in public areas that are frequented by barefoot individuals. For areas like public showers I would recommend purchasing a pair of closed in “reef” shoes that are designed to be worn in aquatic situations where the feet need some form of protection.

  • Is plantar wart treatment covered by private health insurance?

This is a common question that does not have one simple answer. Firstly, you would need to confirm that you have podiatry cover in your extras health fund policy. If you have podiatry cover then you should be able to claim some portion of the fee. The level of rebate varies depending on which health fund you have the policy with and the level of cover for this policy.

If you would like to check with your health fund how much of a rebate you could expect the item numbers we use for claiming Swift Microwave Therapy are : Initial Consultation F004 and F541. Subsequent Consultation F012 and F541.

Daniel Ryan Perth Podiatry

Daniel Ryan

Since working in podiatry, I have routinely witnessed the benefits that can be achieved through custom orthotic prescription. By combining video footage, pressure analysis, and biomechanical assessment, I have had fantastic results when tailoring customised orthotics as a part of clients rehabilitation programs. Orthotics play a pivotal role in comprehensive treatment programs, helping to adjust biomechanical deficiencies, reduce pain and return to activity. Throughout my life, I have also used orthotics to overcome several of my own foot and lower limb injuries, so understand things from a patient’s perspective.
