I have been a Podiatrist for over 30 years. After graduating, I quickly realised that plantar warts were a difficult, slow and often painful condition to treat. I spent so much time during appointments crafting intricate padding to accommodate the application of a ‘wart destroying paste’, advising the client they couldn’t swim or get the dressing wet for one week, at which time they must return to repeat the process once again. Or, I would apply a freezing agent that was painful, would cause a blister that was uncomfortable to walk on, and once again, requesting the client to repeat the process in 2 weeks.
What I disliked the most was these treatments had a very small success rate and after months of treatment, you were often no closer to a resolution. This was very frustrating for myself and the client. The only other treatment available at that time was to surgically remove the wart, once again a painful procedure that often ran the risk of scarring. This scarring made the site susceptible to callous formation for which there was no cure and required regular trimming to keep comfortable. I have seen many of these in my career and clients would say the scarring and subsequent callous was worse than the wart itself!
Fast forward to June 2018 when the Swift microwave, the latest and most effective treatment for plantar warts, became available in Perth. What I love about this new treatment is that it is quick to apply, has no discomfort during or after treatment, and you can continue doing the things you love, including swimming, walking or playing sport. It also has a significantly higher success rate than previous treatments.
So now I love when clients come to me with a wart, because I know how happy they are going to be when it is gone. If you have a plantar wart issue or know someone who does, give me a call. I would love to help you solve your wart problem.
