What is Paraffin Wax Bath?

We recently installed a fantastic paraffin wax bath that helps in the relief of arthritic pain and can also soften hard cracked skin. Paraffin wax retains heat and works by transferring this to painful joints in the feet and ankles. It can also open and cleanse skin pores, enhance circulation and relieve stress. The wax is poured onto the feet and given 10 seconds to cool before another layer is applied. The foot is then placed in a plastic bag and a soft boot which is left on for 10 to 15 minutes to allow the heat to absorb.

After treatment the wax is simply peeled off. The paraffin wax bath is contraindicated in patients with inflamed/irritated skin, peripheral vascular disease, peripheral neuropathy and open wounds. Paraffin wax footbaths are covered by the Department of Veteran’s Affairs for Gold Card Holders and may be covered through your health fund depending on your level of cover.
